You haven’t seen an Argali ? Or an Ibex ? Better yet, a SNOW LEOPARD !?
In summer 2007, an expedition took place in Kyrgyzstan, a small country in the heart of Asia bordered by China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Objective Sciences provided the opportunity for young adults to participate in a great scientific and cultural adventure by contributing to a project to preserve the Snow Leopard (Uncia Uncia).
This independent expedition took place on horseback and provided an opportunity to collect 126 artifacts of cat life (footprints, droppings, and scratchings) at altitudes between 3200 and 4000m in an immense mountain landscape.
The data collected will serve as scientific evidence to demonstrate the presence of the Snow Leopards in the State Reserve of Sary Tchat Irtach and aid in the habitat conservation of this threatened cat.
Finally, it is important to note that our fieldwork with park rangers and local scientists has facilitated the establishment of a formal collaboration between the Kyrgyz government and our association.
Plans for the 2008 expedition are currently underway...
