Make a flying electric car !
With PROPULSION camps, fans of electrical tinkering are about to be surprised ! We are still trying to understand an incredible unexplained physical phenomenon ; electrokinetic propulsion, which allows us, among other things, to make objects fly simply by using electricity !
In 1960, Thomas Townsend Brown, the inventor of Lifters wrote : « The invention uses a previously unknown electrokinetic phenomenon that I have discovered, » and further « It is also my intention to create a self-propelled vehicle without the use of moving parts. » Clearly, the inventor believed he had discovered a phenomenon that could become a means of propulsion in the future. Since then, dozens of scientists (including some at NASA) have studied Lifters, but without success. However, there is one agreed upon conclusion today : it works, or rather ... It flies ! And we invite you to participate in the research.
With younger children, we will build and test all the combinations of shapes, sizes, and materials to provide the wide range of information necessary for understanding the phenomenon of electrokinetic propulsion.
For older children, we shall engage in genuine research and optimization of Lifters. The goal for the summer of 2008 : to build a scale model of a flying vehicle !
Get to work, there is so much to do ! Fortunately the educators at Objective Sciences will be there to help you to handle the materials safely.

Avec les camps PROPULSION, les passionné(e)s de bricolages électriques ne sont pas au bout de leurs surprises ! Nous tentons tout simplement de comprendre un incroyable phénomène physique encore inexpliqué, la propulsion électrocinétique, qui permet entre autre de faire voler des objets par la simple utilisation de l’électricité !
En 1960, Thomas Townsend Brown, l’inventeur des Lifters écrivait : « L’invention utilise un phénomène électrocinétique inconnu jusqu’alors que j’ai découvert », puis plus loin « Il est également de mon intention de fournir un véhicule auto-propulsé sans l’utilisation de parties mobiles ». En clair, l’inventeur pense que ce phénomène qu’il a découvert pourrait devenir un des moyens de propulsion du futur. Depuis, des dizaines de scientifiques (dont ceux de la NASA) se sont penchés sur l’étude des Lifters, mais sans succès. Une seule conclusion sur laquelle tout le monde s’accorde aujourd’hui : ça marche, ou plutôt... ça vole ! Et nous t’invitons à participer aux recherches.
Pour les plus jeunes, il s’agira de construire et tester un maximum de combinaisons de formes, tailles, matériaux afin de fournir les nombreuses informations nécessaires à la compréhension du phénomène.
Pour les plus grands, il faudra se lancer dans un véritable travail de recherche et d’optimisation des Lifters. Le but de l’été 2008 : construire un modèle réduit de véhicule volant !
Au travail, il y a tant à faire ! Heureusement les éducateurs Objectif Sciences seront là pour te guider et t’aider à manipuler le matériel en toute sécurité.
